Semantic future is closer than you think
We found a very readable piece in Promotion World by Roger Janik about the semantic web.
His example of searching the web for information on an HDTV graphically illustrates the frustrations of traditional searches.
He sums up the limitations perfectly in the phrase, “the computers and databases that help you conduct a search for HDTV don’t know what an HDTV is.”
Where we would take issue is in his assertion that many aspects of the semantic web are still just theory. Though it’s true that we are only just beginning to appreciate the power of the technology to enable use to share information much more easily and intuitively, businesses are already reaping the benefits that semantic technology can bring.
Far from being “too early to predict the variety of directions that this amazing new technology will take us”, at Eclipse Marketing we are already offering businesses new ways of getting the most out of data using Cogito’s Contact and Monitor semantic products.
