Greener DM rewarded with lower prices

In these difficult economic times, any opportunity to cut down on overheads is to be warmly welcomed. So, three cheers for Royal Mail’s new service, Sustainable Mail.
Recognising that taking a more environmentally friendly approach to direct mail can mean higher production costs, Royal Mail is to reward greener DM companies with a price incentive, according to Marketing Direct and other sources.
DM companies who send out mail that meets new environmental guidelines will soon be able to take advantage of the new lower price service.
The new bulk mail service, called Sustainable Mail, will be available to companies from April. To qualify, mail will have to satisfy criteria based on three key environmental needs:
• improved sustainability
• minimised waste
• increased recyclability
It has been developed to be consistent with the coming BSI standard, PAS 2020.
With the new service, Royal Mail hopes to encourage businesses to improve the environmental performance of their direct mail campaigns. It will, says Royal Mail, help firms reduce waste, and improve the recyclability and sustainability of their direct mail activities, while at the same time saving money.
