Direct marketers using social media more

social-media-points52.gifDirect marketers are starting to leverage social media more in their campaigns, according to a new study.

500 marketers were polled in the online survey from May 21st to June 1st 2009. The results highlighted the significant growth of social media as a direct marketing tool and as a key platform for e-mail marketing programmes.

The survey revealed that social media is especially popular with e-mail marketers, as 66 per cent plan to integrate the two channels this year, whereas 48 per cent have already formulated the strategy for achieving this.

Also 62 per cent of marketers plan to increase social media budgets in 2009, which is the second highest increase behind e-mail marketing (83 per cent).

However, there’s still widespread confusion regarding how a social media strategy should be implemented. The report notes that 55 per cent of respondents say one of the biggest challenges with integrating social media and e-mail marketing is determining the metrics by which to measure success.
